Operation Mincemeat Stage Door Experience

img_6824

The stage door for Operation Mincemeat is right next to the lobby doors. Unlike some other theaters, it’s not a single door but large cargo bay doors opening into the space between the theaters. Because of this, the Golden Theater shares the stage door with Gypsy over at the Imperial. Depending on the schedules, Mincemeat might let out after Gypsy. It’s shorter than Gypsy by 10 minutes, so it may let out before. For my show, Gypsy was already out when we got out. When this happens, the barricades are primarily taken up by fan waiting to get signatures from the talented cast of Gypsy.

The guards at this stage door told the Gypsy fans when the last of the cast were coming out. Once they left, it was easy to get a spot near the barricade. So if you arrive after the Gypsy fans, just be patient. And if Mincemeat lets out first, show the same curtesy to those waiting on Gypsy and move over once all 5 cast members have come out – or you’ve been told by the guards that no one else is coming.

The cast is extremely kind, not moving from a location until they were sure the people wanting signatures got them. There was a huge crowd behind me (likely spring breakers) and we created a process of passing Playbills back and forth the be signed. It was lovely to chat with the cast while this process was happening, they all seem truly appreciative about our excitement over their show.

Stage dooring for this show is a good experience, but it does get crowded due to this being the door for two different shows. Be mindful of the fact that there are a lot of people wanting signatures for both this show. Don’t get frustrated if you’re not immediately at the front, you will still get a signature.
